Resume of HR Consultant Stephen Clapcott

After working in Personnel Management, Employee Relations, HR and Development roles in organisations as diverse as British Leyland, the NHS and IMI, Stephen established as a Consultant in the 1990’s with a strong interest in change and people development – captured to some extent in the phrase “helping organisations to change cultures and individuals to maximise their talents”.

Stephen works with organisations of all sectors and sizes – small medium and large including multi-nationals - in the Public as well as Private sectors. Industries include various manufacturing organisations, including automobiles and components, glass, chemicals and aerospace, financial services including an Insurance company and a Building Society, railways, a housing association and a scientific consultancy.

He works extensively in Universities on post-graduate programmes at Warwick University, with Warwick Manufacturing Group, and with Birmingham and Coventry Universities. He has also worked on Staff development with UCE Birmingham on Teamwork and on developing a Mentoring culture amongst academic and non-academic staff.

His range includes researching needs, designing and running training programmes on many topics including Coaching, Mentoring, Interviewing Skills, Teamwork and Management Styles. He is also involved in wider aspects of change consulting, which can be as diverse as a ‘hand-holding’ HR advisory role, organising Away Day events, setting up briefing teams, coaching Managers, researching attitudes to processes used in Investors in People, working with teams to apply principles of process acceleration to job redesign, and working with teams on using the concept of 5S’s to provide a safer and more efficient workplace.

Stephen is actively involved with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, being a Chartered Fellow (Chartered FCIPD) and is Treasurer of the Birmingham Branch.

He does some voluntary work as a Friend of Birmingham Prison, Winson Green, doing sessions with inmates on getting a job – while, outside of work, he is passionate about classic cars and is a member of the IAM.
